Obi Cubana was born on April 12, 1975, and he hails from Oba, a town in Idemili South Local Government Area in Anambra State, South Eastern Nigeria. He attended Central Primary School, Anambra State, obtaining his First Leaving School Certificate in the process and proceeded to Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha for his secondary education, obtaining his Senior Secondary School Certificate upon the successful completion of his secondary education.
After his primary and secondary education, Obi Cubana proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1998 to study Political Science, earning a degree in the course upon graduating from the University.

Obi Cubana’s career in night club and hotel business started in 2006, when he established his first night club known as Ibiza in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. With great success recorded in the establishment of Ibiza Club, he proceeded to establish the Cubana group, a hospitality club that provides all round entertainment satisfaction in 2009.
Cubana Group was first established in Owerri, the Imo State Capital but has since spread to other major cities in Nigeria such as Lagos, Abuja, and Enugu. In December 2020, Obi Cubana lost his mother, whose name was Mrs. Odoziaku Akaeze, also known as “Mama Cubana” to the cold hands of death. The burial which took place on July 16, 2021, attracted a whole lot of donations from friends, well wishers, celebrities, Nollywood actors and actresses as well as his long time right hand man, Cubana Chief Priest. Hours after announcing the burial date of his mother on social media, Obi Cubana reportedly received ₦257 million as cash gift raised by friends and associates, 376 live cows, 72 goats, 20 rams, a foreign casket for the lying in state and burial of his mother worth ₦30 million donated by an anonymous friend, 30 bags of rice, a trailer load of beer and various assorted wines from his friends. The lavish burial ceremony of Obi Cubana’s mother, which was a show of wealth and affluence by the high and mighty in society, was held in his home town in Oba, Anambra State.
